Protect the Taxicard, London
London Councils are cynically making cuts to Taxicard, the London door-to-door service for people with reduced mobility. Taxicard is a vital service for enabling disabled and older people to get out and about and keep mobile. But local councils are asking Taxicard members to pay more to travel less far.
Transport for All is the voice of London’s older and disabled transport users. Together with our members, we’ve been fighting this attack on people’s independence and mobility, with protests, letters and media work.
And we’ve had successes! In Lambeth, after a legal challenge, the council backed down over their cut to doubleswiping and agreed to consult with users. And in Ealing, Southwark, Hounslow and other boroughs, disabled campaigners forced the council to reverse their decision on Taxicard.
