Save Our Buses

Save Our Buses is a new campaign to stand up for treasured local buses. Buses are under threat from cuts to three different funding streams. Firstly local authorities are cutting funding for socially necessary routes that are not commercially viable, which on the ground means quieter weekend, evening and rural services cut. Secondly the fuel tax rebate for bus fuel (known as BSOG) will be cut by 20% from 2012. Thirdly changes to the way that the free bus pass scheme is funded will mean that approximately £100 million will be lost to the bus sector.

Combined these cuts could tip bus services into a spiral of decline. This would be a huge mistake, because buses are invaluable for the economy, for communities and for the environment.

This is a national campaign run by the Campaign for Better Transport. We are making the case for buses to decision makers and supporting local campaign groups. Our own click-able map is all about tracking bus cuts and can be found on our website, as can research on the value of buses and a campaigners guide. Get in touch to find out more.
