Bedlingtonshire Community High School (Northumberland BSF) NE22
Sector: Children and young people, Education
Work on building new premises for Bedlingtonshire Community High School was cancelled after Michael Gove axed the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) national schoolbuilding programme on 5th July 2010.
Bedlingtonshire Community High School was the first non-academy school in Northumbria to be lined up for funding under the BSF programme. At the time of the cancellation, headteacher Kieran McGrane told local press that the school was scattered across a number of buildings, some dating back to the 1930s.
He said that having just one new school building would have saved the school thousands of pounds in heating and other overheads.
