Children With Disabilities Social Care cm7

Location: UK » East of England » CM

The CWD team provides social care support for children and young adults with disabilities up to the age 19.

There are currently no social workers available to support the families and carers of these children and young adults due to funding cuts.

My nephew is 9 years old and has Down’s syndrome.  My sister has had no social worker for approximately 8 months.  She also has his twin brother, a girl of 10, a son of 20 (who helps to care for him), all living in a three bed house.  She has the neighbour from hell, and has asked to be moved.  However, because her income support was stopped when his DLA was stopped (apparently he was “no longer disabled”) her housing benefit wasn’t paid and she is in arrears. Therefore they will not move her.

She has asked Social Care to arrange a loan to enable her to clear the arrears and get her moved, but because she has no allocated social worker due to the cuts, they can’t help.
