Cuts
Equality & Human Rights Commission
The government plans to cut the EHRC budget by over 65%, cut staff by over half and remove it’s advice and grant giving functions. Staff working in the English regions and North Wales who work with communities would lose their jobs, and the public helpline would be outsourced. The grants programme for voluntary and community groups would cease.
The EHRC’s enforcement powers to hold employers to account would be rendered ineffective, because the commission would no longer have the resources to support cases, carry out investigations or enforce the public sector equality duties.
The leadership of the EHRC are happy to implement these cuts, but the fightback campaign by PCS members at the EHRC has already begun.
