Extra primary school places in Haringey N22

Location: UK » London » N

£8.5 million has been withdrawn from Haringey Council’s funding for extra primary school places, along with £115,000 for free swimming and £497,000 from the Playbuilder project, which aims to build or refurbish local play areas for children. These stand alongside over £6 million of proposed cuts to the council budget as a whole, which are in addition to the £7 million that has already had to be cut.

Haringey was named by the Audit Commission as the worst council in London for children’s services in 2009, and one of the fourth worst in the country; Ofsted put it among the bottom nine. Some of its eastern wards have also been named as being among the most deprived in the country, and further cuts will not help matters.
