Cuts
Heart of England NHS staff
Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust expects to reduce staffing levels by the equivalent of around 1,600 full-time posts between 2010 and 2014 - around 20 percent of total staff.
The Trust expects the cuts to be achieved mainly through natural turnover and in non-clinical areas.
A few clinical areas will be protected - numbers of qualified speech and language therapists, qualified midwives, and nurses in neonatal units will be maintained, while the number of diagnostic radiographers will increase by the equivalent of 17 full-time posts during the four-year timescale.
The Trust runs four hospitals in and around Birmingham - Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic.
