Identity and Passport Service

The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) is responsible for issuing UK passports and for the registration of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales. It is an executive agency of the Home Office.

IPS intends to close it’s office in Newport and over half of the offices in its interview network.

The cuts will result in redundancies and threaten to leave a substandard service for the public. IPS intends to interview as few as 50,000 first-time applicants. The closure of interview offices will harm smaller communities while the Newport office closure will stall the fragile economic recovery in Wales.

An online petition has been launched to oppose the closures, while campaigners are also urging people to email Damian Green MP to raise their objections.
