Isle of Man fertility treatment funding

Location: UK » Isle of Man » IM
Sector: Health

The Isle of Man government decided in 2010 to cap funding for IVF fertility treatment at £40,000 per year.

The year before the cap was introduced, when there was no fixed budget, 32 couples underwent IVF treatment, costing £100,000. The new cap will only provide enough funding to treat around 20 couples, who will be limited to one cycle of treatment.

The Isle of Man is outside the NHS, and patients from the island are sent to the UK for IVF treatment with all costs covered by the Manx government.
