Lancashire county council proposal to charge for SEN school transport PR1
Sector:
Lancashire county council is consulting on two proposals. The first is to introduce a transport banding framework which will be used for all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities during assessment for transport support.
The second proposal is to introduce charging for the cost of transport support for students with special educational needs and disabilities aged 16-24. The proposal is for families to pay £1000 or £1200 per child, depending on the distance from school that the child travels. Families on benefits will pay half - either £500 or £600. The consultation ends on 27 March and any new scheme will be implemented in September 2012.
