Leicester City Council plans to make the following cutbacks to local museums and galleries:

* four museums will be closed to the public from October 2011 - Belgrave Hall, Jewry Wall, The Guildhall, and Abbey Pumping Station. The sites will open only for scheduled events, such as school visits and steam days at the pumping station
* scrapping plans to replace the City Gallery and increase provision at New Walk Museum
* introduce admission charges for non-residents at New Walk Museum and Newarke Houses
* reduced grant to the Curve Theatre and Phoenix Square cinema and gallery

Does this cut affect you or someone you know?

These museum cuts mean we won’t be able to volunteer

These cuts will affect the Abbey pumping station volunteer group as there will be no staff on site for the regular working parties, and will make putting on the events at the museum very difficult as they won’t be able to gain access for maintenance of certain exhibits, like the beam engines.
