Cuts
New Cross library SE14
As part of a comprehensive package of cuts, Lewisham Council is proposing to close five libraries, including New Cross.
Lewisham borough is one of the most deprived boroughs in London, with high unemployment.
Already down to three-day-a-week opening, the library is one of the few free educational and cultural resources in the area. It is well-frequented by local children and elderly people. It has a good range of books, CDs and places for quiet study. It has computer terminals for free internet access.
