Newcastle city council cuts to homecare NE99

the council is planning to re-tender its externally commissioned home care services and “re-organise it to reduce costs.” The council also says that it will “re-commission some domestic support tasks to save money.” It says it will also make some savings in externally commissioned homecare - the council claims that this can be done because reablement services have helped some people to regain their independence.

Other reviews of vital care services are planned. It its budget this year, the council had a proposal to reduce the amount of time providers spend in people’s homes from 30 minutes to 20 minutes and to review all domestic support packages that exceed one hour per week
