Northamptonshire Casualty Reduction Partnership

Location: UK » East Midlands » NN
Sector: Health, Transport

Northamptonshire’s Casualty Reduction Partnership, a road safety team, is suffering major funding cuts that will force it to reduce staffing and axe programmes.

The partnership runs courses for thousands of young drivers every year, as well as holding speed awareness workshops and educating youngsters on road safety. It says it has has helped cut the number of serious accidents on Northamptonshire’s roads by half.

The Department for Transport has advised the team that it can expect to lose £480k of funding in 2010/11, on top of a £398k cut to its capital funding, which it uses to pay for new street warning signs, police vehicles and mobile speed cameras.

The cuts amount to 27 percent of its revenue budget and the entirety of its capital budget.
