Clare Lodge women’s secure unit outsourced PE6

Location: UK » East of England » PE

Peterborough City Council is planning to set up an ‘arms-length management organisation’ (ALMO) to run Clare Lodge women’s secure unit on its behalf.

Clare Lodge is the leading national provider of secure placements for young women in the UK. The unit caters for young women aged 10-17 who are in need of care, programmes of intervention, and protection. Typically those placed have extensive histories of abuse and exploitation, poor attachments, and low self esteem. Many of the young women have a range of health and mental health needs.

The council believes that by outsourcing the running of Clare Lodge to an ALMO, the council could make savings it could then reinvest.

The council’s plans are currently out to public consultation along with the remainder of its proposed budget, with responses due by early February 2011.
