Cuts
Stevenage Furniture Recycling Scheme
Charity. Recycles used furniture donated by the community to those on low incomes. The withdrawn funding was to extend shop opening hours and collection service. Local authority funding cut: £9,450. Details: Received a total of £16,566 in 2010/11; cut by £9,450 in 2011/12.The charity’s grant has been withdrawn, but council rent in kind payments will continue. The council’s EIA says: ‘Without extended opening hours there is a potential impact on the ability of some people to use the scheme (such as people who work or are carers during normal opening hours). If alternative funding cannot be found for the collection service, this will disadvantage people who do not own cars. These people are also more likely to need the scheme because of low income or unemployment.’
