Specialist hospitals are vital to those like me with orthopaedic conditions

Really saddened to hear of cuts at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. I had excellent care there in May 2010, and continue to be a patient.
This is a national specialist service, a centre of excellence which should be supported, not cut.
For some time patients with orthopaedic conditions like arthritis have been expected to “manage” their own conditions, with very little support from the NHS. Specialist hospitals are vital as it is often only in these services that experiences of patients with complex or severe orthopaedic conditions are understood.
Long term conditions like arthritis and other orthopaedic conditions rarely attract media attention and funding, but have a massive effect on the lives of so many people. We need to preserve specialist skill and resource becuase if we lose it now, it will be that much harder in future to replace.
I work fo rhte NHS as well - inside the service these “reforms” are nothing short of lunacy - it is chaos.
